E-Paper art installation by Malte Steiner, created in 2024 and first shown in September 2024 as part of the solo exhibition Absolute Power : Ohnmacht at Oksasenkatu 11 Helsinki, Finland.
This installation gives an insight into the ‘Tradwife’ phenomenon, which is spread for instance by influencers on Instagram. Tradwives promote their lifechoice between 50s kink, right-wingend conspiracy theories, baking recipes, Christianity and anti-feminism. Malte Steiner developed a software which data scraped Instagram for Tradwife content. It analysed and segmented their images with Machine Learning and sort the related quotes. The machines in the installation generate out of that material approximately every 30 seconds a new unique collage and display it on the e-paper display.
Malte Steiner works with e-paper as artistic medium since 2012, first with a hacked e-reader, later then directly with display components, for instance for the project The Big Crash.
